On September 20, 2017 Hurricane Maria basically destroyed the island of Puerto Rico. There are 63 C&MA churches there, of which 20 were severely damaged.
Alliance Community Church is partnering with one of those 20 churches, Iglesia ACyM de Chorreras. This translates to "Church of the Stream." It is a church of 90 people, and the pastor's name is Efrain Perez. He and his wife Mayra have served there since 1994.
The church is located near the center of the island, which is mountainous. Their city is Utuado, which has a population of approximately 25,000.
Watch this 15-minute segment "60 Minutes," which focused on the damage to the island. There is a 1-minute segment (4:00-5:00) that highlights Utuado, the city in which the church is located, but on the outskirts. He's a link to the 60 Minutes video: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/puerto-ricos-storm-of-misery/
At this point, we're just going to pray for the people of this church. I have emailed the pastor, but due to the lack of electricity there, I don't expect a response until January or February.
I'd like us to consider sending a work team there to help in late 2018 or early 2019.
From the C&MA website...
Despite the outpouring from the Alliance family, the island remains in emergency-response mode nearly two months after Hurricane Maria and will remain so for many more. The greatest needs in many areas still include food, clean drinking water, generators, and fuel. CAMA is partnering with the Spanish Eastern District to ship two large containers with essential supplies. Continue to pray for God's abundant provision for those who lack necessities for daily living. Intercede as well for Alliance churches as they assist with recovery efforts and for divine appointments to share Christ's love and hope.
This page will be updated as more information becomes available.
Thank you for praying,
